Youth in action: Building the future at the Huambo Youth Forum

Forúm da Juventude Huambo
Young people are leading debates on their participation in local governance and the development of human capital.

The first day of the Youth Forum in Huambo was marked by enthusiasm, learning and collaboration. Under the theme “Youth Participation in Local Governance and its Impact on Human Capital Development”, we brought together more than 90 young leaders at the Journalist Training Center (CEFOJOR) to debate strategies, exchange ideas and develop solutions that strengthen the role of youth in building inclusive public policies.

The active participation of young people is essential to boost the development of human capital, one of the priorities of the National Development Plan 2023-2027. Through interactive dynamics and round tables, we explored how young people can contribute directly to local governance and tackle barriers to growth in their communities.

Participants had contact with innovative methodologies, such as Youth4FORESIGHT, which helped them identify challenges and propose practical solutions for their realities. In addition, representatives from institutions such as the European Union, UNICEF, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in partnership with MAT, MINPLAN and MINJUD, brought valuable perspectives on how to strengthen youth inclusion in local decision-making.

We are only at the beginning of this transformative journey, continuing the discussions and ideas, with a focus on creating recommendations that echo the voices of young people for a fairer and more inclusive future.
